FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – March 2, 2012 – NEW ORLEANS – The Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee (PSC) spearheading the litigation surrounding the 2010 BP Gulf Oil Spill today announced that a settlement in principle has been reached with BP that will fully compensate hundreds of thousands of victims of the tragedy.

However, Judge Carl Barbier, under whom the litigation is consolidated in U.S. District Court in New Orleans, pushed the start date back one week, to March 5. The litigation surrounds the explosion and subsequent sinking of the Deepwater Horizon oil platform on April 20, 2010, which killed 11 workers and released thousands of gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico.
